I spent Christmas weekend with my boyfriend's hilarious family. I'm always a little sad that I don't get to see my own family but I'm pretty used to it by now. My brother and sister in law sent the most awesome box of gifts. Actually, my friends, boyfriend, and his family all got me the most wonderful gifts. I just wanted to make a pile of it all and then curl up in bed with it. Hope you all had a lovely Christmas with your loved ones!

PS I also spent a few hours on Christmas Eve painting these to fill all of our orders.

i love you more than...

I stumbled upon this plate at Urban Outfitters when I was Christmas shopping. My boyfriend always says, "I love you more than..." to me and "french fries" has been one of them. Gave me a good laugh.

After working on a holiday shoot yesterday and then coming home to watch the Rockefeller tree lighting last night, I am officially in the Christmas spirit. I may even be moved to go out and buy the Bieber Christmas album! (Was anyone else uncomfortable watching his music video with Mariah Carey)?

the gifts keep coming!

Are you guys tired of looking at my Christmas gifts yet? Well I'm not! I just came home to find this beautifully wrapped package from London in the mail today. (It took a little long because somebody forgot to write the postcode on the package. :) )



In the package were these adorable kitty gloves. I'll be extra careful not to lose these!



...and this sweet NYC necklace. It will be a constant reminder of one of my most fun days in NYC where I visited the Statue of Liberty for the first time.

sanrio tree

I had wanted these Sanrio Christmas ornaments from Urban Outfitters but couldn't bring myself to pay $12 for each of them. So imagine my excitement when I found out they've been marked down to 99 cents!!! Gah!!! Sanrio heaven!



I grew up admiring my best friend's tree that was just covered with ornaments from each year of their lives. Each ornament was different and had a memory attached to it. I've been trying to start that tradition for myself so that maybe in a few years I could have a really nice tree. Urban Outfitters also had this Brooklyn Bridge ornament on sale. The BK Bridge is one of my favorite structures in NYC and I've had so many fun walks and bike rides there with friends and visitors.



I'm up to a whopping 6 ornaments now! (counting my Grinch and I heart NYC ornaments)

unexpected gifts

These past few years I feel like I've been hating the holidays less and less. I think I've finally learned to stop worrying about the things I don't have and to focus on all the wonderful people and things I do have in my life. All I wanted this year was to spend time with the people I care about the most but some of my awesome friends managed to surprise me with such thoughtful gifts. Unexpected gifts really are the best to give and receive.

I had mentioned to Bionics that my mom usually gets me the summer sausage from Hickory Farms every Christmas but that she obviously wasn't getting it for me this year. It started out as a joke, this bad gift that my mom got me, but now I actually crave it around Christmastime. Next thing I know, I received a box of Hickory Farms summer sausage and cheeses in the mail from Bionics. It was so sweet and thoughtful and truly made my Christmas.



Gus also really loved the gift, although I think he loved the box more.



Another dear friend of mine got me these adorable (and cozy!) penguin slippers. I love wearing them and making the penguins dance. (The other night I came into my bedroom to find Gus attacking these slippers. I'm not sure where his hatred for penguins stemmed from but we're gonna keep him away from my slippers!)



She also got me this funny penguin wine key. She must know how much I love penguins and wine!



...and this handmade vegetable soap that smells like fresh laundry washed in heaven. It's wrapped so beautifully with a little jewel on the top that I can't bring myself to use it.



I met Miss Brit for dinner last night and she surprised me with one of my favorite movies. Gah! I'm gonna watch it over and over and over and then hug the box after.



And of course...can I ever have enough Hello Kitty dolls? NOPE!

an orphan christmas...

I woke up this morning and thought, "Now what?" I have no gifts under the tree. What does one look forward to on Christmas morning? But then I looked over at my phone and thought, "I'm the luckiest girl in the world." I had dozens of sweet messages in my inbox from wonderful friends, near and far.

Bionic Woman and I had a lovely Christmas Eve. We were a little over ambitious. We ordered 5 sushi rolls and finished about 2.


I had five movies but we only got through 2, Love Actually and The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Both were excellent. Love Actually was all about telling someone how you really feel on Christmas. I wonder if I should do the same and tell my crush how I feel. I imagine the scene where the Prime Minister, played by Hugh Grant, knocks on every door in London looking for Natalie in order to tell her how he feels about her. I picture myself knocking on every door in Queens looking for The Crush. Bionic Woman tells me that might be a lot of doors. I think so too.

Today, I plan on calling all the people I love, eating leftover sushi, drinking peppermint tea, watching Christmas movies, and snuggling with Gus Gus:




Tonight, I plan on capitalizing on my orphan-ness and making my rounds in NYC, seeing who will take me in and love me. ; ) Hope your day is filled with peppermint, cinnamon, sugar cookies, cheap booze, and warm fleece hugs!

I can't believe Christmas has snuck up so quickly. When I was younger I used to be so excited about opening presents on Christmas morning that I would sleep under the tree on Christmas Eve just so that I could be right there once morning came. The only problem was that I still wet the bed at the time and I peed all over everyone's presents. That put an end to the sleeping under the tree tradition.

Aside from that I don't really have any holiday traditions but I think I'm finally coming to terms with that. For years my brother and I would meet at my mom's house in Jersey, but after an hour of being home we would be so depressed that we'd have to go to a local gay bar for martinis.

Tonight, I am having a slumber party with Bionic Woman. I have on my red long john pajamas, I bought a large bottle of cheap champagne, hot cocoa, and snacks, we're ordering sushi, and we're gonna watch movies all night long. I'm so excited. Here's to a non-traditional Christmas!

uggg I'm taking a sick day today. I guess I over did it a little this weekend. I had to cancel on Little One for a holiday party tonight. I figured this is a good time to get these damn holiday cards done. I never like the box set of cards and I always have some left over so this year I decided to make my own cards. They were kinda fun to make but now I'm pooped. Aren't these little penguins cute though?



now I'm going to relax and watch Devil Wears Prada with my roommate and dream about going to Paris.

urban pantsless santa

I was so upset that I missed Santacon this weekend. I overslept, had a massive champagne hangover, and couldn't pull together an outfit in time. Bad Santa!



Dressing up in costume is my favorite thing ever and I hate doing it half assed. But what you probably don't know about me is that I usually sit around my house in costume. See what under-employment does to you? I guess sitting at desk all day, staring at blank word documents can get a little boring so I get my shits n giggles when I'm wearing something funny, even if I'm the only one who sees it. Today, I decided to make up for missing Santacon this weekend by dressing up as an urban pantsless santa at home. Oh, Photo Booth, how I love you.









I texted Bionic Woman to tell her, "You're not gonna believe what I'm doing right now."

I know what she's gonna say back. "omg, get back to writing that book, woman!" Ok, ok!



I'm still not wearing any pants though.

gettin' in the spirits

I arrived home on Monday to find that my roommate had begun decorating for the holidays. He got this adorable tree which rests happily on his broken amp. (I loved the blurry version better than the focused one).

And he wrapped some white lights on our heater pipe. We figure since our landlord won't turn on the heat, we might as well make some use of this pole. We've turned it into our Festivus pole.

I always get pretty down around this time every year. I've got a lot of plans pending so I'm going to try my best to stay positive. If you hear me moping feel free to send me an online slap!
