Book Critic

So I finally gave in to the hype and read Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. The book was lent to me by a friend and I've had friends tell me, "It's such an easy read, you won't want to put it down," and, "You're gonna wish you had someone like Edward Cullen," to just simply, "I'm obsessed."

Ok, I'm just gonna say, I don't get it. It felt to me like Nora Roberts for teens. I was beyond irritated by the protagonist, Bella Swan. I think the book brought out the teeny bopper in me because I've been caught describing Bella as barfalicious. I felt like the story just dragged on and on with nothing happening until the last 100 pages. How much more could I read about Bella and Edward just staring at each other? And they said 'I love you' and they haven't even kissed? I don't know how real I expected a book about vampire love to be but come on! Maybe I'm just a sadist but perhaps a little more sex and blood sucking could have made the story more interesting. Most of all I was beyond irritated with Bella's lack of confidence and overly self proclaimed lack of coordination. I mean, this is the heroine? A girl who can't run because she'll trip, can't play sports without hitting someone in the head, and wants to skip prom just because she can't dance? Like, I said. Barf.

My friend, M, told me she enjoyed the movie and I thought maybe if I could see this Edward Cullen whose physical perfection Bella describes over and over in the book I might get it. I'll definitely say that the movie is much better than the book and that's only because Robert Pattison makes you forget about the story line altogether. Bella's character got on my nerves in the book and she continued to do so in the movie. What is up with her awkwardness?

I would only recommend watching this movie if you were watching it with your Rabbit. That would be entertaining.

i hate the series and the movie because of the same reason you posted about. It such a unrealistic love story about bella crying and feeling like she is going to die without edward and blah blah and edward being so stoic and stoned face.
the movie was just like the stupid book. I love kristen stewart. she's like hot to me but her character in that movie was a piece of dog shit haah. it makes girls seem so desperate.

No, the thing that was most irritating was Edward kept showing up wherever Bella was and tell her, "You can't be around me". Meanwhile, HE"S the one that keeps going around HER.
After the first 3 or 4 times of this happening is when I noticed. And it still happened 3 or 4 times after that! I laughed every time.

Scene:
Edward stalks Bella.
Bella gets into distress (more than any other girl in the whole town, including the people she's hanging out with at the time).
Edward saves her.
They stare at each other.
Edward warns Bella to stay away from him.
They stare at each other.
End Scene.

That happens like 10 times in a row! Why does Bella never say, "Dude! I AM staying away from you. You're following ME!"

But instead she falls in-love with him I guess because he's playing "hard to get" and "mysterious" and keeps his chin down to his clavicle at all times so he's always looking up (why do all vampires do that?).

Anyway, I could go on and on. On top of all this, I'm sorry, but I do NOT find the guy who played Edward hot. Although he does look better in real life with a tan, he's just this skinny little white kid with (I'm sorry) a weird-looking face! His nose is so weird and so are his teeth. And he rocks a Flock of Seaguls hairdo.
BARF!!

p.s.
Sheesh. Didn't mean to write so much. I just got amped!

I am a huge fan of the series BUT I am reading the last book and I must say that I am not p Bella lease. Some of Edwards reactions and expectations are just unreal. Edward is great but is really starting to get on my nerves. Is it bad that I am hoping that she dies at the end of the series?

Britt, I totally agree with the stalking thing! forgot to add that.

But i am on the robert pattison craze boat. I like skinny and weird. And if he's an asshole, even better!
